Panabo City, Davao del Norte—March 7, 2025—The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources—National Mariculture Center (BFAR-NMC) successfully hosted a Convergence Meeting aimed at strengthening and institutionalizing the Integrated Mariculture Development and Value Chain Program in support of Mariculture Park operations in Mindanao. The event brought together key stakeholders from the mariculture industry, government agencies, academia, and private investors to develop a roadmap for sustainable and profitable mariculture production.
The meeting focused on assessing the current mariculture value chain in Panabo City Mariculture Park, identifying gaps, and formulating strategies to enhance production, post-harvest processing, and market linkages. Key discussions included the Business Model Canvas as a framework for mariculture enterprises, the formulation of sustainability and risk management plans, and certification guidelines for processed mariculture products.
Experts from DOST, DA-BFAR, DTI, and PFDA provided insights into technology-driven innovations, value-adding opportunities, and regulatory requirements for mariculture enterprises. Participants also collaborated on the development of an Integrated Mariculture Roadmap that outlines short-term, medium-term, and long-term strategies to improve sector efficiency, food security, and economic viability.
BFAR-NMC reaffirmed its commitment to fostering sustainable mariculture growth, creating livelihood opportunities for coastal communities, and ensuring the long-term development of mariculture parks in the country. The meeting concluded with a unified commitment from all stakeholders to drive the mariculture industry towards global competitiveness and sustainability.
